Emily + Kyle’s Nashville Wedding
Emily and Kyle’s wedding was absolutely gorgeous!!! Everything was perfect and I loved the venue and style of decor they chose! This venue was perfect!!!! We have been pretty lucky with our couples, especially this one! Emily and Kyle, or should I say Mr. & Mrs. Wilkerson, are so sweet and kind! We have loved getting to know these two and photographing both their engagement session and wedding day! Kyle and Emily you two are perfect together and we pray God blesses your marriage and life together! Now a word from the couple… LOL Here are their answers to a few questions we asked them…
How did you first meet and what were your first thoughts/impressions of each other? Give us the details! 🙂
Emily: We met in Greenville, NC. I had moved there with two friends in August 2011 after graduating from college to begin my career as an Occupational Therapist at the hospital. Kyle used to travel to Greenville and eastern NC pretty frequently and play with a band, Emily Minor, usually at the City Hotel and Bistro when they were in Greenville. It was probably that September when I first noticed “the drummer”, but I was never brave enough to go talk to him, and Kyle thought I was just some ECU college student so he never tried to come talk to me either! We enjoyed their music and used to go watch Emily and her band almost every time they were in town. I would always comment about the drummer. Finally, the following March, thanks to the help of a couple drinks that night, and my convincing friends, I was brave enough to talk to Kyle, but only over Twitter. Then he found me on Facebook and we began messaging on there. Soon after that he gave me his number and we began texting and calling each other until he was going to be back in Greenville again and we could actually meet up in person. The rest is history!
Kyle: We first met in Greenville, North Carolina at a show I was playing with a band I was with at the time. First moment I saw her I thought that she was the most beautiful girl that I’ve ever seen, but of course I was too shy to go up and talk to her so after coming back-and-forth each month to play a show, one of my last weekends there we finally went out a date. My first impression of her was she was so beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful, and she had her life together more than I did… Haha. It’s crazy to think about how everything worked out with us. It was meant to be.
Tell us about your first date!
Emily: One weekend in April of 2012, Kyle was traveling through Greenville, NC with one of the bands he played with at the time. He asked me to meet up and get coffee that Saturday. I had to work that day, but I hurried through my day as fast as I could, changed clothes at work, and then went to pick up Kyle to go to Starbucks. I had to call my friend, Bobbi, on the way to get him so she could calm me down because I was so nervous. I guess it didn’t really work though because I ran 3 red lights/stop signs with him in the car that day because I was so nervous! We had a great time and a great conversation at coffee. The little bit of time that we had together went way to fast that afternoon. He had to leave town to go play somewhere else that night, but we planned to have “a real date” the next time he was in town.
Kyle: Well, the first afternoon we ever really hung out, we went and had coffee one afternoon. She had to come get me because I think we flew in or drove in that day with the whole band. I don’t have an accessible car at these times, so she had to come get me from my hotel. On the way to the coffee shop, she ran a couple red lights because she was so nervous about our mini date and driving me around… Haha. That was so cute. On our first official date a few weeks later, we just went to a nice Italian restaurant in town then went to a really cool bar afterwards and literally talked for hours. It was incredible. We spent that whole weekend together when I wasn’t playing a gig. After that, the rest is history!
When did you first know he/she was the one?
Emily: There wasn’t any one moment in particular, but from the beginning I just felt like he was the one. He made me extremely happy and everything about our relationship just seemed to be easy, even though we lived over 600 miles away from each other! We laugh about how we never really talked about if it was going to work or not to be together when I lived in Greenville and he lived in Nashville and neither of us could move anytime soon. We both just knew that we wanted to be together and would somehow make it all work and we did.
Kyle: I knew she was the one honestly the first time I ever saw her and it was more during our first date. Just the way she carries herself and how passionate she is about everything in her life is amazing. I can’t pin point a certain one thing, but just the comfort and love I felt from her just hanging out with her really made me feel special, and I knew no one else could make me feel that way besides her. I knew I would spend the rest of my life with her after that!
Tell us all about the proposal!
Emily: I was completely surprised by his proposal! We had of course talked about marriage and knew that we wanted to marry each other, but I did not think it was coming when it did. We had planned to go on a hike at Radnor Lake when I got off of work on the afternoon of March 17th, 2014. This date was special to us because it was the anniversary of the first time we officially met and talked to each other. However, that day it happened to be very cold out, but when I asked Kyle he said he wanted to go anyways. (He didn’t have a back up plan!) So we put on our hats and gloves and went to our favorite trail at Radnor. When we arrived at the top, Kyle handed me a note and said, “You thought I forgot this anniversary, didn’t you?” I finished the note and gave him a hug and kiss. Then he said, “I have one more thing for you.” He pulled the ring out of his pocket and got down on his knee and proposed. I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say. Of course I said yes, though! (After saying, Oh my gosh, what is that?!?!) I was shaking and crying so much, Kyle had to sit me down on the bench and we had to wait awhile before making the trip back to the bottom. I was so excited that we were finally engaged and couldn’t believe that it was actually happening!
Kyle: I knew I wanted to marry this girl since I met her, but of course with everything it takes time. We did long distance for a year and a half, so when she was able to move to Nashville, that’s when I started to really think here and there about what I was going to do for a proposal. I didn’t want to do something public, or have family around, but I also wanted to surprise her. We like to have our moments together, just us. So one morning in March, I woke up and knew that it was time to propose to Emily and I knew where I was going to do it. The morning I knew that, I went out and found the ring that I thought was the perfect one, and I planned for the next Monday to go on a hike at Radnor Park in Nashville. We hike anytime that we can, so doing it at the top of the trail we have been on many times was perfect. I wasn’t nervous at all knowing that I’m gonna spend the rest of my life with my best friend! It was a rainy, cold St. Patrick’s Day and when we got near the top, I gave her a note to read and when she was done with that, I got down on one knee and proposed. She was SO surprised I know that… Haha. She was shaking out of excitement so much I was worried about having to now hike back down the trail, which is pretty rough in some parts, because her legs were shaking so much! It was so awesome. The perfect way to do that for us!
What is the one thing you love most about each other?
Emily: I love the way he always puts me first and makes me feel like the most important person in the world. If I’m having a bad day, he does everything possible to try and cheer me up and put a smile on my face. He gets me more that any other person in the world and is always there when I need him.
Kyle: The thing I love the most about Emily is that on good days and rough days, I know she loves me more than anything. Literally having that comfort of knowing that she knows the best and worst parts about me and she still loves me is a feeling you don’t know until you have experienced it with your soulmate. Plus, she puts up with me constantly goofing around and my feeble attempts to be funny. She really is amazing.
Share something silly or quirky the other person does that is normally annoying or crazy, but makes you love them a bit more each time… Or you know you love them because when they do it, you don’t kill them! 🙂
Emily: It always makes me laugh and puts a smile on my face when he sings to me. He’s usually just being silly and not really trying but that’s what makes it cute! He also always sends me silly faced selfies and videos when he’s out on the road. It makes me feel a little bit closer to him even when he’s so far away.
Kyle: I think the one quirky thing she does that’s annoying, but just really cute, is when she focuses on doing something, she rolls her lips back in her mouth. It’s literally the cutest thing that she hates when I point it out, but when she does it, I love her that much more!
Besides getting married what was the one thing you were looking forward to the most on your wedding day?
Emily: I was looking forward to just getting to spend time with and celebrate with all of our family and friends. It was the first time I was getting to meet most of Kyle’s family and family friends and the first time he was getting to meet some of my family, so it was a really special time to finally meet everyone and to have everyone together. It was also very special to have everyone travel to Nashville to be with us on our wedding day and to see the city that we call home.
Kyle: I was looking forward to just having our family and friends there to support us. It’s incredible knowing all those people showed up to support what you’re doing, getting married. To have all that love around was amazing.
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
Emily: My favorite moment was standing at the altar and looking at Kyle as he said his vows. I barely remember anything from the ceremony, and I don’t think I heard a word our pastor said, but I remember the look in Kyle’s eyes as he said his vows to me, and the feeling of happiness I had as we were standing there and pronouncing our love for each other in front of all of our family and friends. I also enjoyed every moment on the dance floor with all of my family and friends! It was so much fun dancing along to the band all night!
Kyle: I think the best moment was our first look. We got to have a short time seeing each other for the first time without really anyone around. To have that one private moment before the craziness starts of the wedding was great. I was speechless when I saw her. She’s so beautiful and gets more and more so with each day that goes by.
